Message for Erna Janine
After carefully following the latest news on Covid guidelines, I have decided to cancel my upcoming workshop for London Craft Week for practical reasons.
Since lockdown in March, I have not been able to open my studio for workshops. I had hoped things would have somehow returned to normal by now. It did seem that things were looking up just recently with the reopening of schools etc. but now the situation is filled with uncertainty.
Working with the yarns in an intuitive, tactile way is what we what we want to achieve with Saori weaving. The current guidelines prevent this from being possible. Tensioning the warp together, handling and blending the fibres together, sharing equipment is not possible.
I will re-schedule the workshop at the earliest opportunity, as soon as my studio can re-open safely but it remains difficult to know for sure when that will be.
I am very sorry that I cannot deliver the workshop at this time but all Saori workshops have been suspended in the UK due to the complexities of the Coronavirus restriction
Create your own cloth during this one day workshop. Japanese Saori Weaving is a technique designed to use a free-style approach to floor loom weaving. We will be using Bengala dyed cotton, paper, Khadi yarn, silk, hemp, linen, wool and more to weave on a ready-set up hand made Japanese Saori loom. You will be introduced to the history and philosophy of Saori in Japan and learn a variety of techniques
You will take home what you weave.
