Beginners Itajime Shibori

Learn how to fold and clamp fabric to make a range of repeating patterns (including the Sekka snowflake pattern). New Itajime boards available - ovals, hexagons ad twinkle (squares with a hole in the centre). Includes indigo dyeing and a free white cotton tote bag to dye.

Suitable for complete beginners. A good quality strong 5oz cotton tote bag is included in the price of the workshop. All other materials and tools are provided.

Taster Weave Workshop with Fiona Daly Textiles

This 2 hour workshop is aimed at introducing you to handweaving on a 4-shaft table loom. You will learn the basics of this traditional craft, understand warp from weft, and learn to construct your own handwoven cloth using traditional four-shaft table looms. You will create a woven sampler, suitable to make into a purse, a bag, a small cushion or wall piece. All weaving will be done on pre-dressed 4 shaft table looms.

You will be taught by Fiona Daly, a contemporary textile designer maker/handweaver and experienced tutor. Fiona creates bespoke handwoven textiles using natural, undyed, local wool for homewares.

Beginners Weaving Course March Weekend - with Fiona Daly Textiles

This weekend course aims to introduce you to the basics of handweaving on a 4 shaft table loom. You will learn all steps involved in dressing a loom: from designing a warp, warp winding, beaming and threading to tensioning. Understand warp from weft, wind bobbins, read weaving drafts and learn to construct your own handwoven cloth. You will explore a variety of weave structures, yarn types and handweave a length of cloth. Your finished cloth could be used as a table runner, a set of place mats, wall hangings, a scarf, fabric for cushions - to name but a few! On completion of this course, you will have all the skills to set-up a loom and weave independently. This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some weave experience who wish to explore further.
