BIOGRAPHY

Under the brand Loopy Ewes, Shepherdess/Designer/Maker Katie Allen produces a range of artisan accessories for the home. Her limited-edition collection of knitted accessories, handwoven blankets and sheepskin rugs are made using the wool from her flock of rare breed British sheep, that conservation graze in The Cotswolds. Across her collection she combines vibrant colour with beautiful textural qualities, to design and make handmade products rich with provenance. Her woollen accessories bring aesthetic pleasure and a sense of warmth and cosiness into the home, with each piece intricately connected to our working countryside and great, British wool.

Cushion

This Scandinavian inspired cushion is perfect for adding comfort and style to any chair, bed or sofa. Made with my hand powered knitting machine in my Cotswolds studio, this gorgeous design was awarded a commendation in the Bradford Textiles Society 2017 Design Competition for enhancing the versatility of British wool. Fantastic recognition for this truly unique design; as with all of my products I only make a limited amount from each seasons wool clip. The cushion is stuffed with a gorgeously plump cushion pad, which uses 100% British wool, so you can be assured it is fabulously British all the way through.

Zig Zag Hottie

My beautiful hot water bottle covers are made with the wool from my flock of Portland rare breed sheep. Using my zig zag design, these covers have a lovely, cosy texture giving you an entirely snug feeling on chilly nights. My fabulous colours are dyed organically for me at the woollen mill in Cornwall that processes all my fleeces into my chunky knitting yarn.

Handwoven Blankets

Beautiful, handwoven throws perfect for a picnic or to lay across the end of the bed. All the wool from my sheep is processed in Cornwall; the chocolate brown yarn is the natural colour of my Castlemilk Moorit sheep, the cream is the natural yarn of my Portland sheep, and my organically dyed turquoise is also produced from my Portlands. After my sheep's fleeces are processed into a yarn perfect for making woven fabric, it goes to a wonderful, nostalgic weaving shed on Dartmoor where my blankets are handmade.

Sheepskin Rugs

Nothing feels more divine underfoot or more cosy to snuggle up to on the sofa, than one of my beautiful, Portland sheepskin rugs. My rare breed Portland sheep have a wonderfully thick fleece which creates these very luxurious sheepskin rugs. The skins are prepared by me in the Cotswolds, and then sent to be tanned on the Isle of Skye at one of the last remaining British tanneries.
