About

Deborah is a fine art graduate who turned to jewellery making after a varied career in animation, packaging design and model making. She recently gained a diploma in jewellery design at Vannetta Seecharran School of Jewellery in London and took part in New Designers 2016 with fellow students.
Deborah’s work comments on social and humanitarian issues. Her collection War Without Tears developed after she was moved by images of refugees fleeing war torn homelands to find safety with appalling suffering and loss ensuing. The collection is distanced from any particular conflict but offers instead a comment on war in general – its ultimate futility yet apparent ceaselessness and cyclical progression through consecutive generations.
Plastic soldiers are used as a starting point for the designs. Played with by children the world over – a symbol of war but used here as a metaphor for the lost childhoods of the youngest of those caught up in the atrocities and the toys they left behind.
