Who is Yuki?
Yuki Sasakura Assiter is a jewellery designer and maker based in London.

Why does London inspire me?
I believe that London is a place where a wide variety of different kinds of people can share in its many different beauties and cultures. I went to the Japanese Garden in Holland Park recently. It has a very traditional Japanese garden design; a pond is surrounded by Trees, stones and lawns. That is very different from other parts of Holland Park, but somehow it is harmonised together and is a very popular area within the park. In the same way, many people with different cultural backgrounds enjoy the garden and this is one of many examples as to how London and its interesting variety inspires me in my work and in life in general.

My Craft London work is...
The collection is connected to my positive memories and places I have visited during my life. I aspire to integrate my physical, emotional and spiritual experiences through jewellery as a medium. My technique combines metal, fabric, stones and stitching – inspired by embroidery and fabrics. I always try to concentrate on attention to detail in my jewellery, but still give it a very organic feel.

Why am I the one to watch?
I am trying new methods and ideas all of the time in my jewellery designing and making. For example in my jewellery, I have used metal as a thin and fragile material like fabric or paper, rather than to look solid and chunky. As well as always looking for new methods and ideas, I also like to keep a traditional style to my jewellery. To me, the new but still traditional styles combined together are a very interesting combination and a concept I am exploring further at present.

What does the future hold?
I am looking to further develop my jewellery and my career in the industry. I would like to branch more in to men's jewellery as well as Women's jewellery and I am also very interested in continuing to do bespoke commission pieces, as well as working with other designers and jewellery companies. I feel that over the years as I have established myself as a jeweller, my work has evolved and continues to do so all of the time.
