Urban Upholstery creates bespoke furniture that uniquely recycles waste materials, seeing the potential in existing furniture and textiles and understanding that recycling does not mean relinquishing aesthetic quality.
Dismayed by growing waste and inspired by its potential, UU have developed a new service for clients who consider the environment as well as design when selecting their furniture.
Using the client’s furniture or their existing stock, their design-led upholstery methods involves restoring cast off furniture by redesigning their shape and then mix and matching reclaimed textiles.
Involving clients at all stages, from consultation to design and manufacture, they create unique pieces that reflect client’s specific requirements and individual style.

Patrizia Sottile is an architect and co founder of Urban Upholstery.
Since 2001 she has worked in London as a freelance artist exploring diverse media. In 2005 she started to collaborate with Andrea Simonutti to develop the design and style of Urban Upholstery as the primary company that engaged in recycling furniture.
“As a designer I approach furniture like miniature architectures, able to create space and to identify with the person that owns them”.

From 26th June until 7th August,the exhibition includes deck chairs, bags, cushions and fabrics.
'Bird In the Hand", founded by Laura Hamilton in 2008, produces hand-printed textiles on top quality organic cotton and linen.Her first collection is the reissuing of designs printed in Jamaica during the 1960s and '70s. They are bold botanical prints with a rich and contemporary feel.
