Silversmith Siân Matthews graduated in 2005 from the Royal College of Art. Her work has received great recognition being presented with the Theo Fennell award for ‘Best Silver’ and the DKNY New Designer Award.
Siân’s silverware fuses bold decorative patterns with simple minimal forms. Referencing traditional prints she combines both past and present aesthetics in her elegant silver bowls. The silverware focuses on the literal combination of ‘form and decoration’. From research into two dimensional Victorian prints Siân creates patterns which develop into the interior surface of the three dimensional forms. Using this principle the work ranges dramatically in scale from small bowls to large centrepieces.
Since setting up her workspace in London she has been involved in several new projects including designing and making trophies for the International Law Office annual awards and new collections of work. She has exhibited her work at numerous shops and galleries including Contemporary Applied Arts, the Metal Gallery, Mint and The Bluecoat Display Centre.
As well as constantly developing her own ideas Siân is happy to discuss special commissions.
