Secondnature is a creative partnership between Ian Turnock, a graphic designer and Susan Laughton, a fine artist.
Our work explores line, form, pattern and materials, transforming the wildness of nature into edgy, dynamic, abstract sculpture. Elements of chance and play are used to digitally create organic shapes which are then refined and developed, crossing boundaries between art and design.
The pieces are bold and dramatic, but also playful and delicate.
We have a particular interest in developing the use of reclaimed materials, both for sustainability and for the creative possibilities of contrasting the clean cut of the new line with time worn materials.
Ian graduated in 1987, working in design studios until founding his own company in 2000.
Susan worked in architecture before returning to college to study art, graduating in 2002.
Our collaboration combines the two disciplines, evolving from a shared fascination with the formal qualities of line, form and materials and a love of the natural world.
We also accept commissions to develop site specific pieces for both interior and exterior locations.
