Who is Mark Nuell?
Mark Nuell is a contemporary jewellery designer who specialises in handmade precious jewellery using a combination of silver, gold and gemstones. His jewellery is well known for its use of subtle, colourful and unusual stones set in soft, tactile shapes which echo the shape of the stone.

What is the inspiration behind your work…
Mark’s inspiration for jewellery came from a close connection with gemstones. His father mined sapphires in Australia which Mark cut and polished, and metalworking techniques have since become as inspirational as the gemstones he chooses.

My favourite material is…
Mark’s favourite materials include the combination of silver with gold because it allows a subtle, white background with a vibrant gold frame for the stone. Gemstones feature prominently in Mark’s pieces. In particular, sapphires in unusual shades of green or yellow which come from the sapphire mines where he grew up in Australia.

Why am I the one to watch?
Mark continues exploring metalwork and finding new forms and settings for the exceptional stones he uses.

Details about the collections you will be exhibiting at Brilliance…
Bold lustrous stones such as misty blue aquamarines, mint green or icy pink tourmalines and rare and beautiful sapphires framed in gold and silver.

What does the future hold?
I am looking forward to my next visit to the Australian gemfields this summer to collect more beautiful sapphires.
