Lucy’s designs are inspired by some of the elegant, charming and humorous elements of 20th century modern and contemporary design. Her graphic style mixes hand-inked illustration, sophisticated colour combinations and modern typography. Interest in her style has led to many one-off commissions. These include designing logos and ranges for private clients and for those working within the craft, design and textiles industries.
Sustainability is central to Lucy’s design principles. She draws upon eco-design principles developed from established research in sustainable product design, manufacture and distribution. Her products use materials sourced locally that include recycled paper, vegetable-based inks and reclaimed textiles. Many of her cards are reusable and their lifetime extends beyond the message they carry. These cards feature instructions for turning them into other useful forms such as decorations, picture frames, toys or recipes.
Lucy graduated from Goldsmiths College, London in 2003 where she studied multi-disciplinary concept based design and specialised in eco-design. Lucy now shares her working time between designing ecological socially friendly cards, taking commissions, making textile characters and working on eco-textiles research projects at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
As well as considering the ecological and social impact of her designs Lucy aims to produce evocative items to be treasured.
