I am a multidisciplinary artist and maker based in Brighton. I express my ideas in wood, paper, animation, book arts and printmaking.
My work celebrates the moment when something hidden is revealed. I am inspired by the use of wood and paper in Japanese culture and spiritual life. Influenced by paper folding and cutting techniques I use 2D to create 3D by introducing layering and movement into wood and paper. Playing on scale, I harness the performing qualities objects have to deliver hidden surprises.
Wooden boxes hold a hand cut miniature paper pop up seasons inside, waiting to burst out and surprise the viewer. Wooden folding rules, traditional carpenters pocket sized tools, spring up to create a shadowy forest that moves.
