LET it FRAY
I was a painter for many years. I have stitched since I was a child. The craft of painting : the language of gesture, the knowledge in the hands, the process of design, colour and composition, these have been my tools. The craft of stitching relies on the same skills. The hands know the feel of the fabric, the pull of threads. I passionately believe in this knowledge. In a world addicted to speed, I savour the time each piece requires.

MATERIALS
Discarded garments sourced from charity shops and the back of the wardrobe: denim jackets, suit trousers-too worn to wear, shirts and ties, all can be cannibalized-cut apart, shrunken, shredded and reformed.

JACKETS
Working within the spaces defined by the structure of the garment- the imposed boundaries of seams, each jacket is embellished with a combination of machine and hand embroidery. The unlined garments display the handwork (the sketch beneath the painting). Every one is original.

SHAWLS
Obeying the human desire for adornment each piece is richly embellished. Some are densely embroidered and textured, others have a “line drawn? quality, as the embroidery undulates along the length of the fabric. Edges are deliberately left unfinished and frayed. These are wearable textiles, functional works of art.

Anything the needle can pass through can be embellished and through the process, reincarnated, Nothing is wasted.
