Laura has recently started up her business as a Textile Designer, following a BA and MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design.
Laura's unique Interior and Fashion pieces are made from Eternal Lace, a textile she developed during her studies. Eternal Lace is created by making needle-made lace using waste plastic bags instead of traditional yarns. This is then subjected to various processes. These are a secret as Laura has filed for a patent to protect the technique.
Laura creates delicate looking sculptural wall pieces, these are waterproof and supple and can be used in outside spaces as well as interiors. Cushions are made from reused and vintage fabrics and buttons combined with Eternal Lace. Recycling is very important to Laura's designs, as is making her products as multi-functional as possible: the wall pieces are interchangeable and cushions display a different design on each side. Wall hangings and lengths are also available.
Colour and pattern are also extremely relevant to Laura's work. Subtle shades of hand dyed fabric cushions and wall hangings are worked into with bright hues or muted tones of Eternal Lace. The lace holds intricate patterns which vary according to the design.
Interest in Laura's work is growing rapidly, the Victoria and Albert Museum have purchased two of her '21st Century Ruffs' for their collection. Her fashion pieces including bangles and chokers have been purchased by lace collectors. She has undertaken fashion and interior commissions, working closely with clients.
