Karen Shannon is a theatrical milliner making hats and headdresses for film, theatre, tv, opera, ballet and advertising. Karen trained at the London College of Fashion and the Royal College of Art. She continued her training making couture hats at Federick Fox and Stephen Jones. Going on to work extensively for Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet while based in Glasgow, as well as teaching part time at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
In 1996 she returned to London and has been based at Pennybank for the past eleven years building an excellent reputation as a highly skilled and creative milliner. Credits include "Star Wars (episode1 The Phantom Menace)","The Golden Age (prequel to Elizabeth1,not yet released),as well as numerous productions for The Almeida Theatre, The National Theatre, RSC, The Royal Opera House, ENO, Grange Park Opera, BBC, Granada TV, Dutch National Ballet and Rambert
Dance Company and many West end shows from Starlight Express to Wicked. Karen also makes one off bespoke hats and headwear with a theatrical twist. Commissions welcome for period inspired hats and headdreses.
