Julie Vermeille is a London-based illustrator, paper and book artist.
What is the inspiration behind your work?
I am inspired by fairy tales, everyday life and people. Acquaintances and Coincidences. The odd and curious behind the seemingly naive pictures.
Your favourite material is...
Patterned fabric, vintage lace and buttons! Textures, colours and history in those objects fascinate and inspire me.
Why am I the one to watch?
My work appeals to little ones as well as grown ups. It is for everyone to get lost in this handmade world.
Details about the work you will be exhibiting at Craft London?
I will be showing a Children story book based in London placed in an installation of creatures coming from the book..
What does the future hold?
More making, sewing and drawing all the time! I will soon be published in 'Merge' (Basheer books) and will complete the Illustrations for a craft and fashion tutorial book (filrougepress). Lots of other projects with the House of Fairy Tales. Exhibiting and sharing through workshops around England.
