Craft Central

My practice as a jeweller has an uncomplicated philosophy. It is essentially an emotional expression and response to the materials with which I have chosen to work. I usually work with a range of metal sheet and wire, silver and gold using traditional jewellery and silversmithing techniques.

I have a strong belief in truth to materials and usually leave the metal unpolished or play with the different surface planes in a piece. I strive to evoke a sense of strength and confidence through the simplicity of line and form.

Drawing, particularly life drawing for research, exploration and reflection underpins all my design work. I believe the use of natural lines and forms and their relationship to the body lends my jewellery sculptural qualities.

I love the solitude of my workshop and my involvement at all stages with the making process, evidence that each piece is made by my hand is very important to me, I often leave a trace of the hammer marks or indication of a soldered join to distinguish it from production techniques and mass manufacture.

Ultimately I want my work to be touched, worn and enjoyed.
