Often designers who are seeking to grow their businesses can have problems with taking on staff or interns/volunteers. These problems can restrict the ability to develop the businesses further.
If you are a designer-maker looking to expand your business through taking on volunteers or staff this training has been designed to give you the necessary practical advice and support. Knowing all the facts will ensure that both you and the individual you take on get the most from the experience and your business reaps the benefits.
Volunteers and work experience students are a great resource and can really make a difference to your business. At the same time you can benefit from knowing that you are offering an emerging designer invaluable experience help them to develop their career.
The training will include:
- Planning the placement, knowing what you want to achieve and developing a programme of work accordingly.
- How to get the right person for the role and gain the maximum business benefits.
- What is good working practice with extra staff
- Understanding what you both expect to gain from the process
- How to effectively manage staff and interns: advising, identifying skills and feedback
- Give guidance, supervision or training to a volunteer
- The practicalities, including insurance, expenses and legal issues
This specialist training is organised by Creative Careers (UAL) and Crafts Central.
