Dagrow Morvorenn is Cornish for “mermaids tears which is another term for sea glass.
Sea glass and pottery originate from shards of broken bottles, tiles, plates, jars and vessels that are polished by the surf against the sand to produce smooth gems that you can collect from the beach.
I use various wire techniques and embroidery in my work to create unique pieces of jewellery featuring sea glass. I salvage various components whilst beachcombing, like fishing line, driftwood, plastic, shells and rope, and often combine with textiles for contrast.
My work is based around a recycling theme, and one of my creative purposes is to show how seemingly worthless beach debris can be utilised and transformed into wearable pieces of value.
I feel satisfied when someone picks up a piece and seems surprised by what it is made from.
Most of my work is sold around Cornwall, where I have also exhibited, and I am a member of the Association of Contemporary Jewellery. I take commissions on request.
