Craft Central

Who is…
Catherine has  been making jewellery since 1970 and her work has evolved over the years in a natural way.

My favourite material is…
My primary interest is in the materials that I use. The way that I can manipulate the metal to form shapes and the colour and shapes of the stones and beads that I source inform  my designs.

What is the inspiration behind your work?
I am influenced by what I see around me, from natural forms to architecture. The combination of shapes, texture and colour are carefully considered before completing each piece. My work needs the movement of the human body to bring it to life, each wearer bringing their own personality to the piece.
I find that each piece can vary with my response to the materials I choose for the piece. I work from a series of sketches and paper models which are not fixed and alow me to work freely from the idea.

What does the future hold…
My work has taken a new direction now that I am using silver again. I am able to increase the scale of my jewellery making large necklaces earrings and rings.

My jewellery is in the collections of the
