Alex established her workshop and practice in 2002, and has won numerous awards for her work and exhibited widely in the UK. She received a CIDA Creative Growth Grant in 2006 and has recently been awarded the prestigious Hackney Business Grant to develop her collection and business
In 2006 Alex was awarded the first Silversmithing and Jewellery residency at Cove Park in Scotland, where she spent a month experimenting, developing themes of containment and concealment in the landscape and producing a new body of work. Alex has since lectured on her experiences at Cove Park and had the collection featured in various publications
Alex is best known for her original and contemporary approach to combining silver with glass. The range features boxes, containers, vessels and tableware, and these pieces aim to explore the contrasting qualities of these materials. There are broad themes of containment and concealment in her work, and she aims to examine the relationship between the built and engineered and the natural and serendipitous.
These techniques have also been applied to a range of commissioned and one off jewellery pieces
